Chicken Little and the Stock Market

Observation: The stock market's recent decline has equaled that of the Great Depression.

Conclusion: Stocks will never, ever be profitable again.

Is it just me, or does the MSM sometimes act very much like a small child after they've banged their knee? Since it's hurting now, that must mean it will hurt for ever and ever, so we must howl and cry until mommy or daddy rescues us.

Or, at the very least, vote Democrat.

Remember:

In the Media, the more provocative a statement, the more people watch. The more people watch, the more advertising money pour in.

"Truth", such as it is, is sacrificed for bombast and controversy.

So, saying the economy is improving--just as an example--isn't NEARLY as sexy as saying "It's all over now, fellahs, there's no hope!"

There's a Market Watch story on Fark's mainpage that works for an counter-example. The fun part is that it works both ways. Everyone predicting gloom and doom gets a lot of reads, but we get used to the pain and stop reading. Then someone comes up with a counter-story that serves the same provocative need and gets their page views.

However, once everyone agrees that things are improving, the story gets completely dropped. No one wants to hear good but not controversial news. We'll reserve that space for feel good stories such as "woman rescuing 97 dogs from a puppy mill and trying to find them homes". Which will become next week's "woman living in filth with 97 dogs, why is this ever allowed?" story.

They've become nothing more than whores.

(I tried to link it, but the filter bugged out.)

I don't think they've ever been anything BUT whores. What bugs the crap out of me is when they pretend otherwise. ~Once a whore you're nothing more / I'm sorry that will never change~

Wow - quoting pop music, even.

Paramore FTW!

Though I'm currently listening to the Ting Tings. Yes, that is their name now shut up and let me go.
