I don't know enough about FWD cars to tell just what the heck happened here. Taking a WAG, looks like something in his transmission broke and allowed him to engage 2 gears at once. At speed.

My guess is that he popped it into reverse somehow. It's either that or he went, as the title suggests, into first instead of third.

Naw he just mis shifted it into 1st instead of 3rd and blew his engine.
