An Igloo, for the Rest of Us

Coming to a trailer park near you: styrofoam dome houses. I'm actually a bit surprised it's taken this long. However, I'm not particularly surprised it took the Japanese to make it popular.

A few companies here in the US do something similar, but they use a specially designed inflatable sack, rebar, and spray-on concrete. The homes are remarkably efficient, go up quickly, etc. This could even make the process cheaper, which definitely has its benefits.

Of course, the rammed-earth tire homes kick all of their asses. As do the straw bale homes.

I guess they'll be great for those who have a Frodo or Bilbo fetish...Mister Underhill, I presume?

Hmmm - since I know there are cosplay LOTR types out there, my guess is that a concrete dome home plus a front end loader and a pile of dirt could take care of rebuilding there own little section of the shire.

Unfortunately, they'll probably be women with hairy feet. Like furries, just not as close to yiffing.
