Funny Thing is, My Mom Can Probably Still Sing Along with the Chorus

Seems once or twice per decade a Spanish-language song makes it big in the mainstream pop charts. I'm not sure if this was from the 50s or 60s, but I know it's definitely from that era.

And you just thought it was the name of a really bad Plymouth.

You are absolutely right! I recognized it from the first chord. I have no idea what the words mean. I don't think I have ever seen a translation. The era was the 60s.

wait a minute, wasn't that song sung by Dean Martin (among others, I am sure)?

I always thought it was Italian. And from the late 50s.

The original was the version on the web. I do believe Dean Martin did have a recording. I always thought it was Spanish but since I speak Southern as a first language........
