Your best bets to get your pets out of the country PROPERLY is to talk to the EMBASSY of the country you are going to. Also talk to your vet when you find out that you are moving. Some countries have very strict laws on vaccines and other protocols for pets to enter. Just because you have a passport for your pet does not mean he/she can pass through.

MANY countries want a Rabies vaccine on the pet given no longer than 6 months prior to entry. Many also require the pet to be chipped (BE SURE TO FIND OUT WHAT KIND OF CHIP THEY ACCEPT!!!! ENGLAND ONLY ACCEPTS ONE KIND OF CHIP- THEY DO NOT ACCEPT HOME AGAIN!) - so make sure the countries you stop in or pass through do not require other items for the pet.

If you follow all of the guidelines, passing with a pet should be smooth. Call your veterinarian for further details. Also you vet needs to be licensed for INTERNATIONAL Health certificate issuing.

Hope that helps.

I live in Oklahoma and I am driving to Canada this summer and I'm taking my 3 year old black male German Shepherd with me. Does my dog have to have a pet passort also and if so where do I go to start the paper work ? Also does he have to be chiped ? Here in Oklahoma when my dog got his shots this year he (my dog) had his photo taken and all his information put on a card. It's the size of a drivers license. Will Canada except that ? Thank-You for your time Rosalee
