Deimos or Bust

Mark gets a red no-prize for bringing us news that LockMart thinks we should land on Deimos before we try to land on Mars. It's my understanding nobody has any idea how to get something big and heavy enough to hold people safely down on the surface of Mars. We just don't have those kinds of propulsion systems at the moment. Why not go to the doorstep instead?

IIRC, the whole Red Mars set up seemed rather plausible. Just keep tossing the required goods, in pieces, at the planet. Everything should be within a decent distance from the location and you can start digging a home once you land.

Alternatively, and with some of the luck we're having with ROVs, maybe they could test a few spots and start digging themselves. While it probably wouldn't be the final product, it might provide a good start.
