It would seem that, when corrected for a variety of variables, engineers, across cultures and through history, make the best terrorists. A deep technical background, and radical beliefs held so strongly you could bounce rocks off them. A picture of an old college buddy suddenly swirls into view...
"Why do so many terrorists have engineering degrees?"
Because the ones that don't end up only blowing themselves up.
Of course, that answer doesn't give the press an opportunity to spread fear, not to mention vent their bile at the people who make their entire reality-disconnected existence possible, so the answer they reach is "engineering is as dangerous as guns, and needs to be controlled, or better yet eliminated, for the greater good."
