You know, people joke about the fixations the Japanese seem to have on bodily emissions, but repulsive as it is, it's probably the main reason they have such a technology advantage these days. Just by having a culture that sees no shame in examining poop, ensures their architectural engineering always takes into account how the people inhabiting their structures can safely and efficiently dispose or recycle the poo they inevitably produce.
