I Have Seen the Face of Godzilla...
... and it is strangely mushroom-shaped. It would seem to me that, if this fungus really is using the energy given off by ionizing radiation, it might even end up a candidate for biological shielding? What a strange thought!
So I guess it looks like a nuclear exchange of some kind wonm't render the planet devoid of life after all...not that that's much consolation for us 7 billion humans (i.e., we're toast), but still...
