Paging Dave Matthews, White Courtesy Phone Please

While I'd seen a few previous examples of "concrete-cast ant colonies," it took this video to show me one in-situ. It's amazing how far the tiniest of critters can get if they work hard enough, long enough.

There's another guy out there that used molten nickel to do much the same thing. His area of study is in the south eastern US, IIRC. Most of the castings I've seen from him have one basic shaft down and then a bunch of flatter chambers branching off.

Amazing! Think of what they could build if they were bigger. Kinda scary to think about!
