Out of Asia

A new genetic study seems to indicate that all Native American populations are descended from one group of people in Asia who either all left about 12,000 years ago, or left in stages starting at that time. The "multi-pulse" alternative matches up with theories based on linguistics.

What's really interesting is the one specific non-coding mutation that they found. As it shows up in only the eastern Siberian population and the Native Americans, that really lends credence to their findings. It also speaks to a fairly virile guy floating around back then (along with either a small group of people coming over - an extended family OR some sort of bottleneck that reduced a much larger population some time in the past in Siberia).
