Neptune's Grave

Ron gets a no-prize covered in harbor mud for bringing us this story about an "aquatic Pompeii." Due to unique circumstances, an ancient port near modern Pisa contains the remains of dozens of extremely well-preserved ancient ships. Most include their original cargoes, some even their original crews. The story of how they came to be there is nearly as interesting as how they're being pulled out.

One more reason to take that oft-discussed trip to Italy!

It's a great place to visit. Honestly, I prefer the winter* and think it'd be loads of fun. Get to see all the great sites, give the thumbs down at the Coliseum**, etc.

*less tourists, the weather isn't that bad compared to what we're used to, and less tourists tends to equal better service all around. That and what could be better than walking into a mostly empty Trattoria on a cold, rainy, and windy day and getting a bottle of red with some incredibly good bread and pasta?
**Yes, I do remember hearing that thumbs up was the sign for death, but we don't do that anymore.
