Live Long, and Cast Well

The lead in Shaun of the Dead has been named to play Scotty in the next Star Trek movie. This apparently completes the preliminary cast, consisting of nobody else I've ever heard of.

I guess you've never watched Heroes or the American Pie or Harold and Kumar Movies. The actor who plays Spock is Sylar on Heroes, and Sulu Is the Asian guy from American Pie who's hot for Stiffler's mom who also plays Harold in Harold and Kumar. Kirk And Bones have yet to be cast.

Well, Sulu's kind of a bit part anyway, plus he's a bit ghei, so I'm not so worried there.

The Spock guy kind of looks like a Vulcan - or at least Hawkman from Buck Rogers.

I dunno who could play Kirk. How can you find anyone who overacts everything like that? Especially since he'll have to be enough of a ladies man to nail all sorts of alien hotties.

Bones - meh, just find some random older guy and put him there.

You just can't get anyone to play Bones. He's gotta be able to say "You green blooded son of a bitch" perfectly.

Bah, the whole Star Trek franchise has been nothing more than a postmodernist propaganda machine since the second season of TNG anyhow. When Gene Roddenberry was still around he could veto the blatant "capitalism is evil, socialism is the future, and even Klingons can be reformed through multicultural diplomacy" scripts. Now, it's always either technobabble or utopianism, or more often, both.

Well, true on Bones, but I get the feeling that Tat has a point about how the new script will come out. Likely very preachy and all with very little in the way of actual good sci-fi.
