Like We Need Something Else to Worry About

Slashdot linked up news that scientists are finding a correlation between common childhood diseases like colds and flu and children's cancer. What the article buried was that it appears to only be an 8% increase, and that only if you have genetic factors which we're not completely sure how to test for.

By the goddess - I love these sorts of studies! What's the standard deviation? Are they within it? Good job of proving cause and effect.

On the overall, I can come up with two findings from this article:
1 - The reporter is a dumbass.
2 - The study, while interesting for a potential correlation, needs much, much more development (and the elimination of many, many other factors) prior to anyone needing to change their behaviors.

Hey, it's more proof than there is for man-made climate change. No doubt we'll be expected to sign the Hanoi Protocol soon, requiring that the industrialized nations of the world reduce their rhinovirus-infected child population by 33% per year, preferably using the same UN-approved population control methods as the Sudanese Arab government.
