Captain Obvious in the Media

For proof of just how out-of-touch Washington-based journalists are, one need only look at this Washington Post article, wherein (in the print edition) the Post runs an above-the-fold headline and nearly two complete pages inside to the earth-shattering discovery that poor kids are more likely to enlist in the Army than rich ones.

The mind boggles.

Maybe it's an obvious realization, but what's significant about this article is that there's data from the Pentagon to support it. There are people who won't believe it's true, but here is data to show them otherwise, to show that those who join the military often do so for the economic opportunity, because there are few such opportunities for them in their communities.
