Like a Juice Box, for Grownups

Fark linked up this Seattle Times article detailing how box wines are moving up-town. Dated vintages, well-known vinyards, at 50% less cost. What's not to love?

I did not see it in the article, but the reason the wines last so long packaged this way is that no air gets into the bag after opening. It's the air getting into the bottle that damages wine after the cork comes out, or when one fails.
And I wouldn't keep a box of red on the kitchen counter unless the kitchen is kept below 60 degrees F. and never near the stove.
