Freeze, or Fry?

Dinos! Get yer pipin' hot dinos!

Also from space.com, this article detailing how a new computer model seems to confirm substantial environmental effects from the fires ignited by the rock what fell apon the dinos. Cue Robert UK... :)

At least this is a different piece of research!

The global wildfires have been reported before, but this is by far the most detailed analysis I've seen.

It's good to see so many people working on calculating the precise environmental impact of the various events that happened at the K-T boundary. The really interesting one is the investigation of the bedrock that the impactor struck (if I recall correctly it's something like carbonates good (causes global warming, but probably not mass extinction), sulphates bad (no need to look elsewhere for the cause of the extinction)).

What surprises me, even though it probably shouldn't, is the really really big impacts cause nearly as much devestation on the opposite side of the planet as they do on the side that took the hit. I think that was pointed out in some SF book I read (Footfall? Forge of God?) years ago.

Scary sh*t Batman!
