The More You Know...

Oh, how many people do I know who "sound" like this? "I think even crazy people are aware of Godwin’s Law by now; they are just too crazy to care. Fight it. One easy way to identify yourself as crazy is to have no sense of scale. To a crazy person, every little bit of nonsense is a crisis of epic proportions that has to be handled right now."

What's that you say? Me? How dare you! When I declare something is a CRISIS, it's a DAMNED CRISIS!

Sadly, the "howling melodrama" tactic is extremely successful at one thing: drawing lots of attention. For those with a strategy that needs it to do nothing else to profit themselves enormously, like the Westboro Baptists and the "Religion of Peace," it gets used at every opportunity. Then other people decide they would like to make the same amount of money with no more effort needed than acting like a lunatic in public, try to copy the plans with varying degrees of success, and eventually manage to drown the world in a tidal wave of drama.

The government is a necessary evil that's supposed to rein in such abuse of the free market economy when needed, but they seem to be too busy trying to put an end to the free market entirely, and see the madness as a useful pro-authoritarian propaganda tool, so useful that they are trying to encourage it rather than rein it in. Then they wonder why the insanity they've been encouraging ends up destroying the forms of rational thought they depend on to retain power, like science and the rule of law.
