Ooh... Shiny...

By using mirrored tiles and an old compact satellite dish, a teen in Indiana has created a solar reflector so powerful it'll melt rock. This sort of idea writ large featured prominently in a (very entertaining) John Ringo book I recently finished, Live Free or Die. I wonder if the architect was inspired by the author?

I finished that one about a month ago. Definitely entertaining. Next in the series (Citadel?) should be out in the reasonably near future.

Beats the hell out of frying ants with a magnifying glass, though. I'd bet the guy might cite Archimedes, though.

Citadel is already out (Came out 1 Jan) The next book in the series (The Hot Gate) is due out in May.
