A Carter Moment

Ok, let me go on record here to state that, of all the colossal screwups the Democrats in general and the Obama administration in particular are responsible for, I simply cannot believe the only thing that's sticking is the one thing that was and is entirely out of their control. Bah. I don't know why I'm so surprised. After all, people are still blaming Bush for a damned hurricane. I guess I'm just, you know, used to the MSM blaming Republicans for every bad thing that happens on any given day.

And, the pressure to "do something" is counterproductive. The best thing the Administration can do is get out of the way. But that's the hardest thing for a certain type of person to do, and that type tends to seek public office.

Obama has said, as proof that the Administration is on top of the problem, that every "key decision" by BP has to be approved by Administration officials. Yeah, I'm sure that explaining emergency oil well procedures to people with law degrees is speeding things up.

Hmmm. I remember a similar set of actions during a certain "police action" back in the day. Results didn't turn out all that well, IIRC.

I hadn't heard that they've got to approve things and I don't disagree that they should be pressuring BP (I'm pretty sure that BP's got plenty of pressure already). They absolutely should be pressuring them - constantly. Not approving things, though. BP has enough folks to make decisions and do things that some should be able to deal with the government/media/PR deal while the engineer types deal with the problem at hand.
