Burnable Bug Poop

It would seem the race for biologically-generated oil has another contestant. This is, what, the third company we've linked that's doing this? Suddenly this is changing from a pipe dream to a "matter of time" sort of thing. If it puts Hajji and his Merry Band of Detonating Dervishes that much closer to a bread line, I'm all for it!

The problem with these is getting enough feedstock. The algae got around that to some extent by proposing to use industrial CO2 as a power source, but there are some definite logistical issues there. Better might be to decentralize the means of production and pull CO2 from the air. Not sure how feasible that is, however.

With this particular process, the feedstock is a bit more obtainable - but we could still see issues in other areas like we're seeing with food. Additionally, increased usage as oil reserves shrink could lead to large scale environmental destruction. Again, my solution to this is decentralizing it. Imagine if they could brew a cocktail of these that fed on organic trash? That would be spectacular.
