Mark Your Calendars

World to end tomorrow:

I have received information psychically, which is corroborated by scientific data, according to which on May 25, 2006 a giant tsunami will occur in the Atlantic Ocean, brought about by the impact of a comet fragment which will provoke the eruption of under-sea volcanoes.

Hey man, it's psychic information! We all know how accurate that is!

According to his maps, we're gonna have ourselves a beach soon. How cool is that?!?

Nah, but if you see the ocean suddenly disappear, run inland as fast as you can.

With something as big as what he's talking about, running inland isn't going to do too much. Your best best is to get as high as possible and hope (hint: Trees aren't high enough). Large concrete structures that are tall enough might be protected.

I was under the impression that, the bigger the tidal wave, the more warning you get, in the form of the entire ocean pulling away.

Something as big as this should give at least an hour's warning, and if people keep running and don't stop even after they hear the screams and crashing behind them, they should be able to reach either high ground or a pre WWII built government office.

True - and if you had a car and were in a relatively rural area with roads leading directly away and up from the cost, you could get lucky. But, on the other hand, these things tend to travel hundreds of miles/hour (I think), so running on foot, while advisable, probably isn't going to help that much. Not that I wouldn't do it, but I would shoot for the interior stairwell of a large concrete structure if nothing else.
