Rovin' Rovin' Rovin'

Yup, it's confirmed, the next lander is due on Saturday. If these next to probes fail too I'm going to start thinking Tatterdemalian's speculation may have something to it.

Update: Always read the comments, wherein I found a little note from someone who actually works on the NASA project.

I was only kidding, of course, but it's fun to speculate.

If they both fail, it might be a good idea to start launching probes designed to determine what went wrong. Such probes would transmit data (external-mount camera?) throughout the landing process, instead of waiting to transmit until the probe comes to rest on the surface. Unfortunately, they would probably have to be designed to do so to the exclusion of gathering useful data from the surface. The equipment needed to maintain a signal during the chaos of a landing would take up quite a bit of space.
