Atomic Batteries to Power... Turbines to Speed...

Like nearly every other American kid in the late 60s and early 70s, I was a Batman freak. I was too young to see the series in first-run, or the movie in the theaters. In fact, I didn't realize there was a TV show and a movie until I was in college I think. Up until that time, I thought it was just a weird, cool show with a 2 hour premiere.

Anyway, turns out I'm not the only one to go nutsoid over the batmobile. 1966batmobile.com has just a ton of pictures and info on the coolest car to come out of the 60s. One tidbit: The batmobile was not based on a Chrysler sedan, but was actually an only slightly modified Lincoln one-off show car from the 1950s. It still survives, as apparently do the three replicas created during the series's run.

Enjoy!
