El Clon!

A few months ago I did a small blurb on El Clon, a soap opera that I cannot understand since it's in another language, but found myself hypnotized by the visuals. * it also has belly dancing in it *

Apparently, that small blurb has created the MOST (and still comming) comments! *keep them comming people!!! :)* Many people still ask what El Clon is all about, whats going on that week in the soap opera ect.. Well, I don't know whats going on in that show. I STILL can't understand it. (I also did not know what was really going on until today) I decided to do some research for those who want the BACKROUND of El Clon and came up with this. *thank the gods for a translation guide and cut and paste!*

Controversy always has been the mark of Glória Perez. Next to the creators of Terra Nostra, it returns with this extraordinary Brazilian production that touches a deep subject thoroughly: the clonaje of human beings, that is to say, the production of one copies identical of a person from a cell common removed from its own skin, while it recreate the loving relation of two young people of different religions, in the CLONE.

PLOT: The CLONE has been beginning for about eighteen years, when Jade, daughter of Muslims - been born and bred in Brazil, is forced to change itself to Morocco after the death of their mother, Sálua, and happens to live the typical conflicts on adaptation to a so different culture .

In that distant earth, Jade knows the Brazilian Lucas, that travels by the country in company of its twin brother, Diego, of its father and the fiancèe of this one and the Albieri scientist. Lucas and Jade fall in love at first sight and will be arranged to face all the obstacles by that love.

While Lucas and Jade live that prohibited love, Diego decides to return to Brazil after a discussion with the father, because he does not accept to his madrastra, to whom considers an opportunist. But something unexpected happens: already in Rio de Janeiro, Diego dies in a helicopter accident, affecting the life of all the personages of the plot.

The death of the godson provides to Albieri the value to complete an old dream: to experience the human clonación. From cells of Lucas, the geneticista makes the first clone human, that will be called Leandro.

PRODUCTION:
The CLONE took part from the equipment to the African continent, to distant Morocco, where the first scenes were rolled, as well as, registered unpublished images in a Brazilian soap opera. Were thousands of crossed kilometers and near forty days filming in five cities of the country, faced the intense Moroccan heat, the cultural and lingüísticas differences and all the difficulties of foreign earth production.

The soap opera will show to scenes of Lucas and Jade in the ruins of kasbah Ait Horseradish tree Hadou, in Ouarzazate, the "Hollywood of the desert", scene of films like the Gladiator, the Jewel of the Nile and the Last Temptation of Christ; sequences filmed with a caravan of 25 camels and 12 Bedouins in Erfoud, the doors of the desert of the Sahara, under a sun of 53 degrees; the enchantment of Marrakech, where the market of camels was recorded that will appear in history; the beauty of the Portuguese cistern of the Jadida, an underground construction of the century XVI, that extends from the entrance from the city to the inner door of the sea (used by Orson Welles in some takings of the Otelo film); and scenes made in the millenarian Medina de Fès, dated from the century IX, that served as reference for the construction of the Moroccan escenográfica city in the production power station of this history.

I watch el clon everyday the soap opera is very unique in its own way. It helped me undertsand more on how, the way muslim people are, and how love after time never dies out... its a great sopa opera very interesting and exciting but most of all the belly dancing is very exotic. I understand the soap opera very well because i speak spanish . It's my second favorite tv show and Leo is hott!!

Posted by: fiorela on October 6, 2002 10:03 PM

YOU CAN SEE IT IN ENGLISH SUBTITLES WITH CLOSE CAPTION 3....

HI
Well I watch el clon everyday , I can understand it because I speak spanish . It is a pretty nice
soap opera , it has many plots and the acting is great . You really get into it once you actually watch it . If anybody would like to know things about it just ask me okay .

Posted by: Betty on October 9, 2002 10:25 PM

It really is a really good soap opera. I don't often get hooked on them but I did on this one. It really deals with modern day issues and has many excellent points concerning drugs, clashing of cultures and religions, love, etc. I have often tried to get my friends to watch it, but since they don't speak spanish, they get a little frustrated. Though they love the plot and follow up on what happens through me. If you ever need help understanding it or anything, just e-mail me at lsantiana@hotmail.com (with the subject el clon---so I know its not junk mail). It's really worth watching.

I watch El Clon every night. I and not spanish speaking, speak very little Spanish, and I sometimes I watch the spanish subtitles so I can learn MORE spanish. However, the show is so good, I sometimes do not want to do my own translation; therefore, I will turn to closed caption 3 and read the english. This is my second Spanish soap opera I have been watching from the beginning. The first one was Xica, which did not have any type of translation at all; So I had to watch and listen to all Spanish. I tell all my non-speaking English friends about El Clon, but they think I am crazy. EL Clon is a very brillantly acted novella. I have learned much about the muslim culture, as well. A VERY WONDERFUL NOVELLA!!!

Posted by: Denise Gordon on October 18, 2002 06:15 PM

El Clon ROCKS! I too understand because I can speak Spanish. I've been hooked on it so long, it has actually done wonders for my Spanish, because I barely speak it. And the thing that really amazes me is that it's actually dubbed over from Portuguese!
Anyways, as someone mentioned before, you CAN see it w/English subtitles, just turn your CC (Closed Captioning) on! It says it at the bottom of the screen every time it airs folks!
I found the best site, it is the OG site from Brazil. Here is the link: http://redeglobo3.globo.com/oclone/frm_home.jsp

Only problem is that it's in Portuguese, but it is sooo detailed, and the show finished airing there a few months back, so it has ALL the summaries up to the end. Because of my Spanish & some French I know, I can pretty much understand it, but here's a hint: if you search for O Clone with Google, it gives you the option to translate it!

Esta novela es algo fuera de serie, I don't like to watch soap operas but this one is superb.
The author created this soap opera that send a message to every one. Not only shows us the culture of that region (Morocco), is a great lesson fot those to are in drugs.
The scenography is well created. The theme is out of this world.

I am also interested in purchasing the DVD collection. I missed a lot of the initial episodes but was able to catch onto the story by reading up on the internet...the plot is very intriguing and it is amazing how all the characters are somehow all tied together...

Posted by: Tab on November 21, 2002 06:17 PM

I bought the soundtrack to El Clon at Sam Goody's. It is called O Clone, and it is fantastic. It offers music from Michael Bolton, who was a guest of Sein's at his night club, and it has Shakira, who originally sang the theme song in Spanish but on the soundtrack is in English, and it has some arabic music as well. My kids and I thoroughly enjoy it.

Posted by: Marcy on November 22, 2002 04:20 PM

My hubby and I watch El Clon every night on Telemundo in Washington DC. For some reason our TV doesn't have CC3 so we can see the English subtitles. Since I understand Spanish fairly well from reading, we turn the CC on and I translate. We're absolutely hooked on this show and the characters. We would have liked to see it from the beginning, but we caught it mid-stream and have been watching ever since. The music is awesome and we're about to buy all the soundtracks. I hope Telemundo will re-air it again (it's about to go off soon in our area) so we can follow the entire story.

El clon is the best telenovela i have EVER watched. I've never missed an eppasode, its the best! Its a sope oporea worth watching. I'm spanish so i understand it perfectly, but omg this is the best! Its really good because it basics on real problems we have today: luv, religion, drugs, growning up etc.. anyways, if any of you have the chance to watch it.. now its too late cuz its almost over. But once you watch since the beginning, its like a magnet you cant get away from it!! EL CLON IS THE BEST TELENOVEL EVER!!!

When I started to watch El Clon, I did not understand spanish, even though I am full blood Mexican. But El Clon did what none of my teachers could do, it taught me spanish. I would just like to see a spin-off of this series on any one of the characters. If any person will right Gloria Perez a request for a spin-off, contact me so I can sign it as well.

Posted by: Ana on December 6, 2002 07:16 PM

If you want to show everyone how many English speaking fans love El Clon I suggest you submit it in the "never jumped" category of the very popular website jumptheshark.com. (A show "jumps the shark" when it has a moment when you realize it's not as good as it used to be.) El Clon in my opinion, never jumped so hopefully fans will vote as it is a huge honor to be included among those that never did.

I am sorry to say I missed this wonderful creation of “El Clon”, but unfortunately here in Los Angeles it started too late for me to watch and I have to get up pretty early. A co-worker of mine was telling for a long time that I looked identical to a character by the name of “Mela” in El Clon. Unfortunately the soap opera is now ended and I am left with much curiosity. By any chance does anyone happen to know the actual name of this character so that I may see for myself the resembles? I would really appreciate it, I am dieing to know!! I guess she was the daughter of the twin brother and she developed a drug problem but at the end she sobered-up. My address is ndeossa@hotmail.com

Hi!
This messagee is for Ana from Yugoslavia!
Ciao Ana!

Hi I love El Clon and I wish it to be a DVD!!!

Natalie Deossa the character you talk about is Mel Ferraz and she is the daughter of one of the protagonist and he's Lucas Ferraz and yes he's one of the twins (the one who didn't die). She develops a severe Drug-Problem which nearly drives all of her family mad and also keeps Lucas from reuniting with Jade.

"El Clon" was definitely the best show I've ever watched, so I'm very anxious for a DVD. But I have good news for those of you who loved the music; I have 4 different music CDs from the show! I was able to find some at local Sam Goody stores...but finally checked Amazon.com, where all 4 are available. If you search on-line for these, note the spelling differences between Portuguese titles (O Clone) and others for the Spanish speaking market (El Clon). Titles are;
1. "Maktub" - Marcus Viana (He wrote the soundtrack. The cover shows him playing violin with a desert scene)
2. "O Clone Internacional" (Lucas on cover)
3. "O Clone" (Jade on cover)
4. "El Clon" (Lucas & Jade on cover)
Good luck to you music lovers and I'll keep praying for the DVD! Lynn

El clon is a good soap opera, but you didn't still see Only your songs, soap opera that it portrays the Christianity very well.A soap opera also Brazilian.
El clon note:10
Only your songs note: 10
The two soap operas are wonderful.
Plus,Only your song it is more legal!!!

Only your song is the best....El clon is the best!!!!
Viva as novelas brasileiras!!!!
Só suas canções é uma Novela que fala de Jesus e O clone fala de Maomé.
Eu prefiro a que fala de Cristo!!!

Hi, I'm from Bosnia. "O clone" is the best soap opera I've ever seen. The reason why I like it so much is because this is for the first time that one soap opera speaks about my religion and it comes so close and natural to me. Of course, we don't act every time in the same way like people in Morocco, but the culture is very similar. They try in every episode to explain something new about islam and to make that religion easily more understood to others.
I like all the actors, they do their job perfect, everybody is just "born" for his own role.

This mail is to Gloria Perez

I would like to bye a DVD of the soap opera el clon in spanish.
Please mail me the quotation on my e-mail adress.

My comments on the Opera:

It is a very interesting story, has it's biblical mistakes but in a part II, that can be corrected. the story self is very touching.

Please make a part II and make Jade come back to Said as first Wife for Kadija sake.

Congratulations with your novell.
